Siam Orchid 54 Portland Street Manchester M1 4QU Tel: +44 (0)161 2361388 |
![]() |
Description: Siam Orchid enjoys the distinction of being the first Thai restaurant outside London, established in 1985 on the edge of Chinatown. The restaurant, on the ground floor offers an extensive menu of some 80 dishes, of which at least 20 are vegetarian. Cheerful service and menu guidance provide help for the uninitiated. For those of an outward-going disposition the large lounge upstairs has a karaoke facility and is open for drinks and snacks until 2 am. There is a relatively small wine list that should cover most eventualities. To find out more Click Here |

| Description:
Amidst
a great flurry of ethnic and not so ethnic restaurants it was high
time Italy made its contribution. And so it has. Mind you the former
Stock Exchange in which it is housed will never be the same again,
though as some wag said at the time ‘ this is one stock that
will keep on going up”. Yes, well, I suppose that was preferable
to remarks about the basis for the soup. With a flurry of Awards
Stock is taking the market by storm and the basis is very much the
care and precision in the preparation and a mature and confident
approach front of house. A serious Italian wine list with house
wine at £15.50.

Tampopo 16 Albert Square Manchester M2 5PF Tel: +44 (0)161 8191966 |

Description:
One of, if not the original noodle bar in Manchester and still offering good food at prices that offer superb value, the set lunch, in particular. It always helps to restore ones faith to see a restaurant that consistently gets it right in all the main areas. Service is brisk, but still remains friendly, the food sets a standard which clearly commands respect and the menu has been selected by somebody who actually knows what people want. It is at all surprising that Tampopo sails on triumphant, nor that son of Tampopo is now a part of the Trafford Centre. |

Greens 43 Lapwing Lane West Didsbury Manchester M20 2NT Tel: +44 (0)161 4344259 |
![]() |
Description:
Greens is a pleasant, relaxed little place, popular (so worth booking?) and one can see why. There is indeed an international approach to the vegetarian cuisine and when we start sourcing materials from outer space one has the feeling Greens will be at the forefront. So it is difficult to be more precise about what is on offer, but committed carnivores might just find themselves taking a second look . . . No license, so take along your own bottles, for which you will pay no corkage. |
